# Nyan Heroes: $3.5M raised: the design team behind a cat-mech battle royale

- Year: 2022
- Industry: Web3 & gaming
- Services: Branding, Web design, Development, Motion
- Result: Rebrand, Brandbook and whitepaper
- Stage: Startup

## Input

Nyan Heroes is a play-and-earn battle royale built on the Solana blockchain, where players pilot mechs as cats. The studio had updated its branding and needed a website that matched it and made the shift to blockchain gaming clear. The company went on to raise $3.5M.

## Reasoning

We worked as the studio's dedicated design team. We built low-fi and hi-fi prototypes, showed several concepts, and after approval designed every page, responsive and animated. Electric yellow on near-black sets the look, a heavy grotesk is paired with a pixel font, and the game's own mech renders do the main visual work.

## Outcomes

A website with character, careers and news pages, a refined palette and type system, social media templates, and a full brandbook. The collaboration ended with a detailed whitepaper designed in the same language.

## Design notes

- **Every mech gets a card.** Characters are the reason people play, so each one has the same card: a render in a yellow frame, the name in heavy type and the next character peeking in at the edge. The pattern scales to any roster size without new layouts.
- **Two fonts, two voices.** Integral CF carries the headlines with the weight of a AAA title. Neue Pixel Sans is the second voice for labels, dates and data, a quiet nod to games without turning the brand retro.
- **Three colours, one cat.** The palette is cut down to electric yellow, near-black and grey, so the mech renders stay the loudest thing on screen. The cat-head symbol works on its own in any of the three colours.
- **Templates the team can fill in.** Hiring posts, weapon reveals and announcements all use the same grid of yellow and grey cards. The templates let the studio publish on brand without a designer drawing every post.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do you design a website for a Web3 game?

Lead with the game. For Nyan Heroes the characters, the world and a bold animated hero come first, and the blockchain side sits in its own pages and the whitepaper. Players decide on the gameplay, investors find the details where they expect them.

### What does a dedicated design team do for a game startup?

It works like the studio's own design department. For Nyan Heroes Figmatica covered prototypes, the website, the brand system, social templates, a brandbook and the whitepaper. The studio focused on the game, and one team kept everything in the same style.

### How do you build a brand identity for a gaming company?

Borrow from the game, then simplify. Nyan Heroes got a tight palette of electric yellow, near-black and grey, a cat-head symbol and a pair of fonts: a heavy grotesk for headlines and a pixel font for details. The game's own mech renders do the rest.

### Should a crypto game have a designed whitepaper?

Yes, if investors and players will read it. The Nyan Heroes whitepaper uses the same type, colours and imagery as the website, so vision, game mechanics and token details read as parts of one product.

### How do you design a game website that works on mobile?

Plan the mobile layouts from the prototype stage. On Nyan Heroes every page, from the hero to the character cards and news, was designed with its mobile version, and the animations were adapted to the smaller screen.
