# AI Drone ChatBot: $2M+ startup, 4 screens, 1 chat: how drone pilots talk to AI

- Year: 2023
- Industry: AI MilTech
- Services: UX/UI design, Product design, Motion
- Result: Product launch, $2M+ raised
- Stage: Startup

## Input

An AI startup was building a chatbot that lets teams talk to their drones in plain language: send a unit to a location, run a mapping mission, check battery and live video. The client is under NDA. They needed a product design team that could turn a technical idea into an interface people trust in the field.

## Reasoning

We joined as the startup's dedicated UX/UI team and treated the conversation itself as the control. Chat, live video and the map sit in one view, so the operator never switches context. The interface is dark and calm, with one signal orange that keeps attention on the drone.

## Outcomes

User flows, a chat interface for desktop, tablet, phone and Apple Watch, mission types and the motion that presents them. The startup launched the product and raised $2M+, and the Behance case was featured in the UI/UX gallery.

## Design notes

- **The map is the answer.** When the operator asks about an area, the bot highlights the buildings on a 3D map instead of replying with coordinates. Flight time, camera, latitude and distance sit in one compact card below, and a single or multi mode switch sits on top.
- **Chat and video, one tap apart.** Operators think in both words and pictures, so the Chat and Video toggle keeps both one tap away. Voice input shows as a live waveform, and the remaining mission time stays pinned on screen so it is never buried in the conversation.
- **Missions on the wrist.** On the watch we kept only what matters on the go: the live feed, the drone status and three mission types drawn as simple line icons. Grid, circular and polygon read at a glance, even on the smallest screen.

## Frequently asked questions

### How do you design a chatbot interface for drone operators?

Treat the conversation as the control panel. In AI Drone ChatBot the chat, the live video and the map live in one view, and every answer from the bot comes back as something visual: a highlighted area, a mission card, a timer. The operator never has to leave the conversation to act on it.

### What does a UX process for an AI product look like?

For AI Drone ChatBot we went from design goals and competitor analysis to user research across B2B and B2C users, then sketches, UX/UI design and testing with iteration. User flowcharts mapped every path, from sign-up and adding a robot to fleet management and support requests.

### Should a drone control app work on phones and smartwatches?

Yes, if operators move around. We designed AI Drone ChatBot for desktop, tablet, iPhone and Apple Watch. Each screen size keeps a different depth of control, and the watch shows only the live feed, drone status and quick mission types.

### How can a design studio work as a startup's dedicated UX/UI team?

Figmatica joined the AI Drone ChatBot startup as its dedicated UX/UI team, with designers, a design lead, a project lead and a delivery manager working inside the product process. The startup launched the product and raised $2M+.

### Why use motion design in an AI product presentation?

A chatbot that moves drones is hard to explain with static screens. For AI Drone ChatBot we animated the real flows in After Effects: a request, the drone card, the mission on the map. The Behance case built from them was featured in the UI/UX gallery.
